About Open Source software ;)
Do you use open source software? Here are some tips to make your experience more
pleasurable.
- You paid nothing for the software. This entitles you to a program with
no GUI glitches, no minor annoyances and no bugs. You also deserve 24 hour
support, just because you're awesome. Remember to always take that for granted
and never forget to complain when your requests are not granted within a day.
- If you find a problem with the software, don't tell the authors about it.
Simply complain on your own site, because the developers love having to scour
the web for problems with their software. Also, email is a no-no. Emailing
the developers might get a problem resolved, which would mean you couldn't
complain about it any longer.
- When the developers claim to be working a project in their spare time,
they actually mean full time. This means you, the user, are their number one
priority. Don't accept miserable excuses for slow development, such as family,
job, etc.
- Don't thank the developers. They should be thanking you. Don't forget that.
- When reporting a bug, never give any useful information. Examples of good
bug reports include "The program doesn't work", "Why did I
get an error message" and my favorite, "It crashed". This will
warm the developers' heart and make them love you.
- Insult the developers. This will encourage them to work harder. See #4.
